EDITORIAL SNAPSHOT

Pokemon - Platinum Version (v01)

Pokemon Platinum Version came out in 2008 for the Nintendo DS, developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo. It was part of that era where the dual screens and touch input started to feel normal, a solid entry in the main series that built directly on what Diamond and Pearl had established the year before.

Version Overview

You play as a kid from a small town who sets out to fill the Pokedex and challenge the region's eight Gym Leaders. The core loop involves exploring the world screen by screen, tall grass and all, to find and battle wild Pokemon. You weaken them with your own team's attacks and then throw a Pokeball to try and catch them. Your main goal is to become the Champion by defeating the Elite Four, but a significant part of the game is the new Distortion World, a bizarre area with its own physics that you navigate to confront the legendary Giratina. The pacing is deliberate, with a difficulty that encourages you to stop and train your team regularly. It feels like a complete and more challenging version of the Sinnoh adventure.
